I have wanted one of these for decades, I should have bought it sooner. I had a Barbour years ago but was frustrated by the short sleeves and so sold it. The Border has much better proportions for me and I love it. I were it everyday to walk the dog by the sea and with the optional hood and liner is well up to the task all year round - well maybe not height of summer. Great service too, rapid delivery and a very good price.
My Barbour Border Navy Blue Wax Jacket arrived this afternoon after having ordered it yesterday. I couldn’t be more delighted with it, I ordered a large fitting as I wanted to wear a fleece or Puffa underneath, it fits the bill perfectly in all departments. It is my first purchase from Sam Turner & Sons and would certainly recommend them to others for a most exemplary professional service!
This is my third. Each one lasting more than a decade. I think this grade of material is best for everyday wear, not too heavy. This time I went down a size to a 40", I normally choose a 42" size. But 40" is a better fit. The sleeves and body are still roomy enough for wearing a shirt, with a lambswool jumper, and a suit jacket. Also, it is about 2 or 3" longer, so better for that - it should stop the bottom of my thighs getting wet. Also the inner 'poachers' pockets have increased in width over my previous one, and back to their original width, much better. The fit is a bit better than my previous one, less wide at the waist and leg, not tailored, and 'regular'is the right word for it. I was looking at all the various Barbour coats, but I am glad I returned to a Border again, as the changes over my older one seem an improvement in fit.
